THE BIGGER PICTURE
A starting point
for progress.
BMI brings your height and weight together in one simple measure. It helps you understand where you fall within standard adult ranges and gives you a baseline for future check-ins.
Check in over time to see how your BMI changes. Bring those measurements to conversations with a healthcare professional to help set goals that fit your health and circumstances.

Good questions.
Thoughtful answers.
Is BMI calculated differently for women?
The adult formula is the same for women and men: weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. The standard categories are also the same. BMI does not account for differences in body composition.
What does my BMI actually tell me?
BMI describes your weight relative to your height. It is a screening measure, not a diagnosis or a full picture of your health. It cannot distinguish muscle from fat or show where fat is stored.
Can I use this calculator during pregnancy?
This tool is not intended to interpret weight during pregnancy. Talk with your midwife or healthcare professional about your individual needs and your pre-pregnancy BMI.
Does age or ethnicity make a difference?
This calculator uses CDC categories for adults aged 20 and older. Health risks can differ with age, ethnicity, body composition, and medical history. A healthcare professional can help put your result in context.
